Arc De Triomphe Etoile was build in 1805 after Napoleon's greatest victory in the Battle of Austerlitz against a Russo-Austrian army. The Emperor, who was an admiror of Rome, used one of Roman architectural constructions to celebrate the victories of his armies. The construction of the Arc de Triomphe lasted 30 years. Since then Arc De Triomphe Etoile is the passage of processions and parades are organized for Paris national events: the official entry of Napoleon and Marie-Louise in Paris, the return of ashes of Napoleon, funeral of Victor Hugo, the parade of the Victory, July 14,after first World war in 1919 and in 1944 at the end of 2nd World war. The monument stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle and today also includes the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris and attracts many tourists. |
